The romanic Art in Almenno

Almenno is an ancient territory that boasts some precious Romanesque remains that time has handed down to us almost intact. The rotunda of San Tomé (early 12th century) is the most famous of all thanks to its circular plan that unites it to the cathedral of Brescia or Mantua. Founded on a previous fifth-century kiosk and a former church in the 9th century, it boasts all the major advantages of Romanesque churches, such as sobriety, beautiful historiated capitals, spatial orientation in dialogue with the cycles of the seasons.
The church of San Giorgio (XII century) is instead imposing, the second Romanesque basilica in the province of Bergamo by size, but the most spectacular feature is inside. The walls are extensively decorated with frescoes made between the 12th and 15th centuries perfectly preserved and readable by the visitor who is catapulted back in time.
